GFR11 | Meet the Designers – Shinichi Mathy, designer of SHIKI Design
When did you join SL and why?
In 2007, I heard about SL through a friend of mine. I joined as soon as I got home.
How did you get into content creation for SL residents?
At that time, I noticed a shortage of interesting clothes for men. One month later, I found myself trying to learn how to use photoshop. Three months later, I launched SHIKI.
How would you describe your shop?
SHIKI is an expression of the changing seasons as they apply to clothing design. SHIKI means FOUR SEASONS in Japanese and I hope to portray that in an artistic way. I create two main collections throughout the year in addition to montly group gifts for both men and women. The SHIKI store and sim also change to reflect the season.
Front Row is an event supporting Relay For Life® of SL. Why does it matter for you to participate?
We still don’t have a cure for cancer and I am confident that one day there will be. This is the best way I know of to help and it makes me happy knowing that I am contributing in some way. I’ve been invovled with RFL for the past 3 years and will continue to support RFL.
What would you like to say to those who are discovering you through this interview?
I would like to welcome everyone in SL to discover the world of SHIKI and at the same time, contribute to this worthy cause.
What makes you happy?
Making people happy.

About Relay For Life® of Second Life®:
Relay For Life® is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life® in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July. In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a real world Relay. The main RFL of SL track event this year will take place on July 16-17. We will walk a virtual track for 24 hours, just like in a real world Relay For Life. Team members build and gather at their team campsites, enjoy live music, participate in fun events, and explore the many Relay sims and the incredible builds by some of Second Life’s top designers, as the event runs overnight and into the next morning.
In 2010 Relay For Life of Second Life attracted more than 120 teams with participants from over 30 countries, held over 300 team fundraising events between March and July, and raised over US$222,000 (that’s REAL US dollars) for cancer research and education. The funds raised go to research, advocacy, patient services and programs, with 12-15% going to international projects. Just as in the real world, RFL of SL is an international event.
